Pleural fluid in the azygoesophageal recess may present as a mass lesion on plain films of the chest. This occurs in the absence of underlying parenchymal or pleural pathology. Computed tomography proves to be useful in demonstrating the location of the abnormal fluid collection and in differentiating it from mass lesions.
