The first several articles address the complex issue of fetal cardiac imaging. For those of us in radiology who still do this, fetal cardiac ultrasound is one of the most challenging and rewarding areas in obstetrics. All of the major societies have required 4-chamber and outflow tract views for a long time as part of a basic obstetrical ultrasound screening examination. In recent years, the addition of more views including the 3-vessel view, the 3-vessel tracheal view, short- axis views, long-axis views, aortic and ductal arch, and superior and inferior vena cava views, as well as the selected use of color flow images has been called the extended fetal cardiac ex- amination. As of this time, the major societies have not formally incorporated these views into their obstetrical examination recommendations; however, many institutions performing level II high-risk obstetrical ultrasonography have already been routinely obtaining these views of the heart as part of a high-risk obstetrical ultrasound screening examination. In general, be- cause many of these views are not that difficult to obtain http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Ultrasound quarterly Wolters Kluwer Health
