Comments from the Editor EDITORIAL Philip W. Ralls, MD elcome to the June 2009 issue of Ultrasound Quarterly. I am very grateful for the Wefforts of our authors. It is challenging to find the time to write these articles in today’s world. Assistant Editor Carrie Sofka has, as always, conscientiously summarized the recent diagnostic ultrasound literature. Thank you, CarrieVunfailingly valuable and instructive. In this issue, we have a sampling of the unknown cases presented at the annual Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound meeting, Advances in Sonography, which was held in Philadelphia last October. Frequent contributor and Editorial Board member, Dr Vikram Dogra, supervised these cases. Dr Joseph F. Polak, MD, MPH from Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in metropolitan Boston, leads off with an excellent discussion BCarotid Intima-Media Thickness (IMT): an Early Marker of Cardiovascular Disease.[ Dr Polak is one of the world’s experts on this subject. Dr Richard G. Barr, MD, PhD and Joseph R. Grajo share their work on opti- mization of ultrasound scanning. Drs Roya Sohaey, Karen Oh, Anne M. Kennedy, Nathan R. Selden, and Jonathon R. Ameli from the Oregon Health and Science University present a nice pictorial essay on the Prenatal Diagnosis of Tethered Spinal Cord. Last but not least is an excellent educational piece on retroperitoneal fibrosis by Drs Bahar Moussavian and Mindy Horrow from Albert Einstein Medical Center.
