Matthew D. Rifkin, MD, FACR his first issue of 2004 marks the beginning of my seventh year as editor of this journal Tand I have enjoyed the opportunity to put together a compendium of articles for the readership that will educate us all. This issue presents a number of publications that should help us practice ultrasound with a more educated eye and a better understanding of certain pathologic processes. The first article, by Drs. Eun Ju Lee, Hee Jae Joo, and Hee Sug Rye, is about the ultrasound findings of uterine polypoid adenomyomas—an entity that many of us who prac- tice each day do not readily consider. This review will enlighten us all regarding this disease process. The next article, by Drs. Osmar de Cassio Saito, Nestor de Barros, Maria Cristina Chamas, Ilke Regina Souza Oliveira, and Giovanni Guido Cerri, presents the various find- ings using ultrasound in the evaluation of tropical and infectious disease that can involve the scrotum and its contents. With the mobile population in today’s world, all of us may have the opportunity to encounter a number of these processes. The next presentation discusses the results of the consensus panel on hand-held ul- trasound equipment that was held immediately before the most recent annual meeting of the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound, in Chicago, October 17–19, 2003. Dr. Robert L. Bree, who spearheaded the consensus panel, has (along with the other panelists) summa- rized their findings. As with each issue, Dr. Carolyn M. Sofka has put together a comprehensive and important summary of a large number of ultrasound-related articles that have recently been published in, primarily, nonimaging journals. All readers should enjoy these synopses. Copyright © 2004 by Lippipncott Williams & Wilkins Ultrasound Quarterly Volume 20, Number 1, March 2004 1
