Polychlorierte Biphenyle (PCB) gewinnen neben den pestiziden chlororganischen Kohlenwasserstoffen als potentiell toxische Substanzen unter hygienisch‐toxikologischen Aspekten zunehmende Bedeutung. Wesentliche Vermittler bei der Verbreitung dieser Substanzen in der Umwelt sind die Atmosphäre und das Wasser. Vom hygienischen Standpunkt sind Untersuchungen über die Belastung von Oberflächenwässern, die der Trinkwassergewinnung dienen, erforderlich. Da die Analytik der PCB eng mit dem analytischen Nachweis chlororganischer Insektizide verbunden ist und beim Nachweis beider Substanzgruppen wechselseitig Störungen auftreten können, besteht das Hauptproblem der PCB‐Analytik in der Abtrennung der die Be‐stimmung störenden chlororganischen Insektizide, insbesondere des p, p′‐DDE. Eine dünnschicht‐chromatographische Bestimmungsmethode wird beschrieben, die sowohl eine Trennung als auch eine quantitative Bestimmung folgender Substanzen bzw. Substanzgemische ermöglicht: p, p′ ‐DDT, p, p′‐DDD, p, p′ ‐DDE, y‐HCH, Chlophen A‐60, Aroclor 1254, 2,4,4′‐Trichlorbiphenyl und 2,3,4,5,6,2′,5′‐Heptachlorbiphenyl. Eigene Untersuchungsergebnisse über die PCB‐Belastung von Wässern werden angegeben.
