Workshops Abstract W‐01 Challenging expectations around actively involving the public in research Derek C Stewart National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network, England Corresponding author: derek.c.stewart@nihr.ac.uk The term ‘active involvement’ describes activities where the public are working together in partnership with researchers to identify the relevant questions, prioritisation of ideas, shaping the design through to dissemination and informing and influencing policy and management of research. This highly practical and interactive workshop is specifically designed for members of the public (including patients and carers), researchers and research managers. The session will explore training resources used in the United Kingdom by the facilitator particularly from his own work – Bec and Derek and from Macmillan Cancer Support's Building Research Partnerships. We will work on two levels. The first will be to use the resources as participants and secondly to reflect on the value for primary care research.
