Abstract
Editorial th To Werner Sobek on the occasion of his 65 birthday Werner Sobek’s work is permeated by the dialogue between architecture and engineering, a discourse that encompasses considerations of design, material optimi- sation and sustainability. It is also characterised by a constant drive to exceed boundaries, discover new ideas and carry out innovative research that will influence his plans and designs. This is all recognised by numerous accolades. Examples include the Médaille de la re- cherche et de la technique from the French Académie d’architecture, the German Steel Construction Award (Stahlbaupreis), and the Fritz Leonhardt Prize awarded by the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Engineers.
