The swedish color centre foundation

The swedish color centre foundation Foundation Members and from the National Swedish Board for Technical Development (STU). Internationally the Foundation presented itself at the Lucerne Meeting in 1965 by giving the philosophy and intention of the research work and showing some preliminary psychometric studies. In June, 1966, the Foundation invited about 20 of the world’s leading color scientists to scientific discussions on the theme “Attributes of Color Perception.” Half a year before the establishing of the Foundation in 1964 a Society was formed, mainly for individual membership. It was called the Swedish Colour Group and a close cooperation between the two organisations was established. The Swedish Color Group, represented by Tonnquist as its first President, was one of the founders of the AIC, and he also was Secretary General for the first AIC Congress, Color 69, in Stockholm in 1969, organized by the Group. At this first AIC Congress the Foundation presented not only the basics of the color order and notation system called NCS but also a prototype of the NCS Color Atlas, a limited number of colour samples illustrating the system. (NCS stands for Natural Color System which was the name Hering had given to his concept already in 1874.)
