THE RATE OF APPROACH TO HOMOZYGOSITY

THE RATE OF APPROACH TO HOMOZYGOSITY Summary In Wright's model of a finite population without mutation, the leading term in the expression for the probability that the population is homozygous was obtained approximately by Wright. Kimura obtained a full and exact solution to the corresponding approximating diffusion model. For a new model involving overlapping generations the leading terms in the expansion of the probability can be obtained exactly and these are compared with the corresponding approximation of Kimura type. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Annals of Human Genetics Wiley

Abstract

Summary In Wright's model of a finite population without mutation, the leading term in the expression for the probability that the population is homozygous was obtained approximately by Wright. Kimura obtained a full and exact solution to the corresponding approximating diffusion model. For a new model involving overlapping generations the leading terms in the expansion of the probability can be obtained exactly and these are compared with the corresponding approximation of Kimura type.
