The First Interview: Context and Process

The First Interview: Context and Process This paper suggests that insufficient attention has been paid to the unique features of the first interview in family therapy. Much of the literature about first interviews is descriptive rather than analytic, and is couched in terms of what a particular theory about family therapy suggests that the first interview issues ought to be. Five processes inherent in the first interview situation are outlined. Implicit in these processes is the reality that the first interview is not an isolated event: it can only be adequately understood in the light of the family's past experience of problem recogniton, self‐help, and referral, and in the light of the therapist's future strategy. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy Wiley

Abstract

This paper suggests that insufficient attention has been paid to the unique features of the first interview in family therapy.
