The Body, Psychiatry, and Effective Family Therapy Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy 2016, 37,3–5 doi: 10.1002/anzf.1144 Editorial The Body, Psychiatry, and Effective Family Therapy The take-home message from reading this issue of the journal is that family therapy is an evidence-based and effective intervention with application to a wide range of issues and is increasingly being taken up by other disciplines (e.g., psychiatry) in the mental health field. The following papers demonstrate the growing relevance of family ther- apy whether you are treating conversion disorder in children or intervening more broadly with mental health issues in either young persons or adults, working as a child and adolescent psychiatrist with complex presentations like schizophrenia, engag- ing in collaborative and dialogical practice with children and adolescents, helping cou- ples to resolve conflict, or fostering stepfather relationships in stepfamilies. The leading article by Kasia Kozlowska, The Body Comes to Family Therapy: Utilis- ing Research to Formulate Treatment Interventions with Somatising Children and their Families, is based on a keynote presentation at the 36th Australian Association for Family Therapy Conference in Melbourne in November 2015. Children and adoles- cents with functional somatic symptoms are challenging to understand and to treat, and frequently deny emotional or family problems; http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy Wiley
