Step‐Families and the Marriage Counsellor* Marital breakdown and the threat of it affects all members of the family. When a stepfamily is involved more people are affected. Marriage counsellors will now encounter more clients who are in stepfamilies. Stepfamily formation is different from nuclear family formation. These differences and their relevance to marriage counselling are discussed.
