Dye Aggregates in Water X. Zhang, D. Gçrl, V. Stepanenko, F. Würthner* Hierarchical Growth of Fluorescent Dye Aggregates in Water by Fusion of Segmented Nanostructures Seeing is believing: Amphiphilic perylene bisimide aggregates were visualized by transmission electron microscopy and the self-assembly of dye aggregates from small nanorods to large nanoribbons in water was observed on the molecular level. The fluorescence properties of these dye aggregates were enhanced for the higher order nanostructures. Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. DOI: 10.1002/anie.201308963 Fluorescent Probes A. Poirel, P. Retailleau, A. D. Nicola,* R. Ziessel* Synthesis of Water-Soluble Red-Emitting Thienyl-BODIPYs and Bovine-Serum-Albumin Labeling Red and water soluble: Highly fluorescent water-soluble thienylBODIPY dyes with quantum yields reaching 60 % were prepared by a facile synthesis by using dimethylaminopropyne, followed by quaternarization to the ammonium salt. When adequately engineered, such dyes could be used as fluorescent label for covalent binding to proteins (see figure). Chem. Eur. J. DOI: 10.1002/chem.201303988 Polyoxometalates Y.-Q. Jiao, C. Qin, X.-L. Wang,* C.-G. Wang, C.-Y. Sun, H.-N. Wang, K.-Z. Shao, Z.-M. Su* Three Cobalt(II)-Linked {P8W48} Network Assemblies: Syntheses, Structures, and Magnetic and Photocatalysis Properties New connections: A series of cobalt(II)-linked {P8W48} network assemblies have been discovered, one of which contains the largestever
