PANA reveals that Congo’s constitutional court has validated 13 of the 17 candidates seeking to contest the country’s presidential elections slated for July 12th. The candidates will face outgoing President Denis Sassou Nguesso , leader of Congo’s Labour Party ( PCT ). Nguesso was elected in March 2002 for a seven‐year term, with 90% of the votes. The official electoral campaign for the elections started on June 26th, while the nationwide distribution of voters’ cards began earlier.
