This paper presents a novel rule‐based method for online localization and phase selection of multiple partial discharge (PD) sources in cross‐bonded cable (CBC) networks by simultaneous measurements of PD pulse trains at all link boxes. The proposed method detects PD defective cable sections (localization task) and their corresponding defective phases (phase selection task) regardless of the number of PD sources inside the CBC network and their severity differences. For the first time, the proposed method is capable of detecting more than one PD source by analysing PD pulse trains.
