Bulletin of the Geological Society of China * ° 'T lt has been generally held that the Middle Ordovician fauna characterized by the presence of Actinoceras and Maclurites of North American affinity prevails in North China, while a fauna of Orthoceras together with Orthis calligrain,na of European affinity predominates in South China. The reason why the Chinese launas of Middle Ordovician consist of two different types has been already explained by Professor J. S. Lee. He stats1 that "Apart from the raising land, barrier across Central China as a result of .the Huaiyuanian Movement the Palaeocathysian geosyncline seems to have remained essentially the same as in Lower Ordovician.
