Observations on the Siderite Deposits of Shansi*

Observations on the Siderite Deposits of Shansi* By T. F. Hou and T. C. CHOW (Shansi and Sui yuan Bureau of Mines, Taiyuan) With 4 Text-Figures. Discova. The siderite deposit or clay ironstone was discovered by the seiior writer at Chintsui' (Fig. 1) and 30 kilometers north of Antseh ciy2 in southern Shansi. The siderite nodules are embedded in greenish i1rny clay beds lying above the Carboniferous limestone and underneath the Permo-Carboniferous red and green sandstones. In this locality only one layer of the siderite ore has been found not more than 0.7 meters in Though there is no economic value, yet the occurrence of this tflickness. kind of deposit may have some scientific interest. About two or three weeks after the first discovery, the junior author has found localities of the same kind of deposit in the Fushan and Hsiang- fling districts3 with much wider distribution and therefore of much more important economic value. Other two important localities were again met by Hou, one in the western hills of Taiyuan and another in the northern part of Chiaocheng district4 during the field work carried out in October 1936. From the geological point of view, siderite deposits may be present at many other localities on account http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Acta Geologica Sinica (English Edition) Wiley
