Notes on the Geology of Great Khingan* ¡ulletîn of the Geological Soiety f China No. 3 Vol. XIV ßy ANDREW M. SMIRNOV (Ki-IARBIN) In August 1933, I made geological investigations in the vicinity of Barim station of Chinese Eastern Railway. This area was explored by Or. E. Ahnert in 19011, but my explorations were more in detail; I made geological survey in the scale 1: 10,000. All petrological determinations were made without microscopic examination. Rocks of this region are: I) Metamorphic series. Granite Hypabyssal rocks of granitic magma Basic igneous rocks Oldest of all are hornstones. They are compact, light- or blackish- tray, often with remains of bedding planes and small phenocrysts of feldspars and quartz. Such "porphyritic homstones" sometimes have brecciated structures. They stand with all their characteristics near to actual eruptive breccias. Part of 'porphyritic hornstones" possibly may be named quartz- porphyry. Here and there hornstones are intercalated with dykes of old eruptive Their broken pieces form the material of eruptive breccias besides the rocks. fragments of hornstone. in some points among hornstones are lain sedimentary rocks.
