Corruption Charges Former Ministerial Advisor Paul Mossman was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment, fully suspended, on two counts of corruptly receiving benefits from Latitude Travel (ABC News, NT News, 17 January 2017). A further count relating to whether or not he received a secret commission will be retried in September after a jury failed to reach a verdict in October last year. During a mention relating to the retrial, Mossman’s former counsel informed the court that he was no longer representing Mossman and did not know who, if anyone, was. It was also revealed that Mossman had been unsuccessful in an application for Legal Aid and that the DPP has appealed against the leniency of the substantive sentence (NT News, 1 March 2017). The committal hearing of former Police Commissioner John McRoberts featured a witness list of senior police, bureaucrats, the Director of Public Prosecutions and a former Minister for Police.
