News NEWS Kodak Limited Celebrates Fifty Years of Research at Harrow Three days of celebrations got underway on July 19,1978, at the Kodak Research Division in Harrow to mark the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of a research function in Kodak Limited. The first day of the interplant conference began with a lunch for over 100 people including ten of the members of the original laboratory of 1928 and all four of the previous Directors of Research. Many distinguished past members of the division were present as well as leading scientists and academics from outside the company. The opening remarks of the Conference were made by Mr. F. J. Moorfoot, Chairman and Managing Director of Kodak Limited, who warmly welcomed both employees and guests and paid tribute to the part played by all during the past fifty years, in particular the contributions made by the five Research Directors in steering the division along the path to success. Dr. Walter Clark, Director of Research 1928-193 1, and Mr. E. R. Davies OBE, Director of Research 1931-1966, both contributed anecdotal and interesting reminiscences of the early years and development of the laboratory and Dr. R. A. Jeffries, the present Director, explained the current situation in which the Research Division operates many facets of research which both directly support the manufacturing processes and also contribute to the original research of Kodak worldwide. Some observations on this Golden Jubilee were made on behalf of Kodak in France by Dr. P. Clement, Director of Research for Kodak Pathe. Dr. T. H. James, previously of the Research Laboratories of the Eastman Kodak Company, New York, gave a critical and first-hand examination of “The Change in the Concepts and Outlook of the Photographic Scientist 1928-1978.” The day’s proceedings were concluded by Dr. L. J. Thomas, Vice-president and Director of Research of the Eastman Kodak Company, who traced the expansion of research in Kodak worldwide up to the present day. Over the last fifty years the Research Division of Kodak Limited has grown and strengthened. As Dr. Roy Jeffreys said in his speech at the Conference, “The Laboratory is not a thing apart, but the visible tip of an activity which engages the company as a whole, at home and overseas, at the same time being rooted in the wider world of science and technology.” COLOR research and application http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Color Research & Application Wiley
