Network News

Network News solutions to difficulties family therapists encounter as they work alone. One may entertain rosy visions of support and camaraderie, the construction of brilliant split team interventions and opinions and the satisfaction of helping families solve the most terrifying and intractable problems. In reality the contrary can occur with the team undermining the work of the therapist and leaving all members feeling more isolated, disillusioned and angry. This edition of Network News takes as its theme Family Therapy and Work in Teams and correspondents raise many of the issues that should be clarified before the team sees its first family. Attention is drawn to the need for shared theoretical and philosophicalbeliefs, the power and responsibility of both therapist and team members, hierarchy within the team and the 'fit' between the organisation and the team. Other issuesto consider include the appropriate selection of families for an approach that is so labour intensive, and families' responses to this mode. Despite the note of warning, most correspondents saw a continuingvalue in this approach to therapy and their contributions raise issues that could provide a valuable focus for discussion for those who work together in this way. This edition also includes conference reports http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy Wiley
