Network News INTRODUCTION The families of family therapists perhaps benefit from our rich body of knowledge; they may at least be grateful for the entertainment value we, as parents, provide in our attempts to apply our knowledge to our parenting! My son used to derive wry pleasure from my early attempts to get him to do his household tosh appropriately, classifying me as definitelypeculiar at the time I thanked him for not doing the tasks well. thereby being sensitive to my need to save money. As one correspondent suggests, having a family therapist in the family does not ensure familial bliss. Likewise lawyers may not necessarily order their affairs impeccably, and doctors may be somewhat cavalier about their own family members ' health. The correspondents discuss the ways in which family beliefs and cultural traditions impact on our own practices as family therapists. There is a stated imperative that the influences of one's own family of origin should be thoroughly analysed by practitioners, with one correspondent implying that the postmodern emphasis on co-constructed realities renders the issue of therapist training in this regard even more critical.
