MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY IN NORTHERN IRELAND * Since completing (in June 1952) the investigations reported in the f k t paper of this series (Stevenson, 1953) there have been some changes in the families reported and some new families have been discovered. The following are the relevant changes (as a t 1 May 1954): Family D 3 1 IV.9 now has definite clinical signs of Duchenne type dystrophy which is interesting confirmation of the significance of the disturbed creatine creatinine balance previously reported. He has enlarged calves and rises from the floor in typical fashion. The elder brothers are progressing as expected. A sister (IV.10) was born in May 1963. Family D7 In this pedigree, 11.14 has now a son of a year old who appears normal. 111.16, aged 8 (born 1945), was notsed by a paediatrician from hospital and is definitely affected by Duchenne type dystrophy. He was in the United Stateg when the family was first seen and was reported as normal. He stumbled from the time when he first walked. The folIowing are case summaries of newly found families: Family D54 DUUHENNETYPE This is a new family notiiied by a Medical Officer of Health.
