Cheng was also a famous expert in management in China’s geological communities. He served successively as deputy director and director of the Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources, vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, chief engineer of the Department of Sciences and Technology of the former Ministry of Geology, vice-minister of Geology and the Ministry’s chief engineer.
