MAKING THE MOST OF OPPORTUNITY

MAKING THE MOST OF OPPORTUNITY Commission in its weekly bulletin has just announced that cancer, AIDS and health education are three health initiatives provisionally approved for funding. The Council adopted the third action plan to combat cancer and funding has been allocated for that (European Commission’s ‘The Week in Europe’ we/22/95). Commissioner Padraig Flynn was reported as welcoming the decision, in the knowledge that over the past 12 months more than 1 million citizens in Europe had been given a diagnosis of cancer. If that does not focus the mind for collaborative ventures, nothing will. Opportunities are also available to enjoy professional exchange and discussion of the state of the art of cancer and palliative care at two events later this year. When this issue is published, the ECCO-8 conference will be only a few weeks away. This Paris Conference will have both mehcal and nursing programmes and the exhibition under one roof. There will be plenty of opportunity for collaboration. At the end of November, the developments in palliative care will be discussed and debated at length in Barcelona. The 4th EAPC Conference will be held in this b e a u t h l city in December 1995. Your ideas and aspirations need to be part of those interdisciphary and collaborative opportunities. There is still plenty of time to take part in both of these important events. Abstract

Commission in its weekly bulletin has just announced that cancer, AIDS and health education are three health initiatives provisionally approved for funding. European lourno1 of Cancer Care, 1995, 4,97
