Letter from Argentina

Letter from Argentina KATHLEEN BOYD Narratives for a New Millennium, Adelaide, 23±27 February 2000 The Discursive Construction of Knowledge Group held their fourth biennial conference in the grounds of the Adelaide Art Gallery 23^27 February, 2000. Entitled `Narratives for a New Millennium', the conference was structured around morning and afternoon keynote addresses followed by a choice of workshops, open discussion involving the previous keynote speaker or, the presentation of a series of brief papers arranged in themes. Alternatively, you could choose to sit drinking coffee in the courtyard in the hot and sunny Adelaide summer and talk to whomever you pleased. Many conferences are industry or discipline specific but this conference attracts a range of academic and professional interests. The depth and breadth of this range can be gauged from the keynote speaker line-up. Between them, Eva Cox, Charles Lamert (John Kaye gave a creditable rendition of this keynote when Charles Lamert was unable to attend), Guyatri Chakroverty Spivak, Robyn Archer, Wendy Stainton Rogers, Tom Andersen, Jane Flax and Jackie Cook covered a diversity of inextricably linked areas such as social policy, psychotherapy, postmodernism, poststructuralism, postcolonialism, globalism, the arts, media, popular culture, advertising, psychoanalysis, critical psychology, hermeneutics and institutional politics.
