A coalition of opposition parties will form the next government after the premier is defeated. Opposition parties in Lesotho on March 4th formed a coalition government after beating Prime Minister Thomas Thabane 's party in snap elections aimed at bringing stability following a coup bid. Former premier Pakalitha Mosisili 's Democratic Congress ( DC ) party picked up the most seats but fell short of an outright majority and then teamed up with six smaller opposition groups to form a coalition government in the tiny southern African kingdom. Premier Thabane's All Basotho Convention ( ABC ) party had held a narrow lead during early counting of the February 28th vote and won 40 out of 80 constituencies, with the DC taking 37. The Lesotho Congress for Democracy ( LCD ) won two constituencies, and the Basotho National Party ( BNP ) won one constituency. In the final tally, the ABC fell to second place with 46 of the 120 national assembly seats. The DC wrested 47 seats. The Lesotho parliament has 120 members: 80 members represent single‐seat constituencies, and the remaining 40 are elected by proportional representation.
