Welcome to the first issue of the fifth year of publication of Asia Pacific Psychiatry. We have been gratified by the international acceptance of our journal as a sought after publication for the work of highly esteemed and productive colleagues around the world. In fact, although our standards for acceptance for articles for publication continue to rise, each year we receive an increasing number of submissions. And while our standards continue to go up, the number of papers surpassing our threshold for acceptance also continues to rise. This present edition of the journal reflects two significant changes which embody our successful trajectory. Both the quality and quantity of genetics research across the pacific rim continues to improve, and as a reflection of this important set of advances, you will see that all the articles in the print version of this edition of the journal are focused solely on genetic research studies. We expect to periodically continue the practice of publishing theme based editions of the journal which reflect the important advances in research across the region. The second change in this edition, thanks to the strong support of the journal by our publisher, Wiley‐Blackwell, is the representation of a number of articles in the table of contents which are being published only in our online version. This change is necessitated by our wish to ensure the timeliest publication of important scholarship and the page constraints of our print version. Readers and authors should rest assured that both the print and online articles have been reviewed with the identical exacting standards for excellence. The placement of all articles in the table of contents of the print edition reflects that there is no difference in any way in the value of any of the articles. In taking this step, we follow in the path of many of the most prestigious journals in the world, including, for example, The New England Journal of Medicine. On the occasion of these changes, may I take this opportunity to thank both our colleagues who have entrusted us with the products of their important and valuable scholarship and to thank our editors and reviewers whose efforts have resulted in a journal we are proud to publish.
