Abstract

In the 21st century, academics and practitioners have paid increasing attention to how groups of states govern migration flows, whether regionally or more globally. Although international migration is inherently a cross‐border activity, cooperation among states to manage these flows at the regional and international levels is a relatively new phenomenon. Within this context, the volume, Foundations of International Migration Law , edited by Brian Opeskin, Richard Perruchoud, and Jillyanne Redpath‐Cross, provides an important overview of the current international tapestry of migration law. Although not meant to be an exhaustive account, their aim is to touch upon the major themes related to this part of international law, using brief case studies as a means of illuminating the real‐world context of the legal issues at hand. The book is intended for a diverse audience of students, academics, policymakers, and members of civil society, who are new to international migration law or who have specialised knowledge in a particular aspect of migration law but would benefit from a more expansive overview. The volume starts with an outline of migration patterns before turning to a general discussion of the sources of international migration law. At a time when migration controls are so
