Abstract
Summary Two growth stops per year occur in some equatorial fishes. The paper provides a method for fitting a generalized von Bertalanffy growth function (VBGF) allowing a mathematical description of such growth stops occurring twice a year; this method is illustrated with a growth curve for Oreochromis niloticus (Cichlidae) from Madagascar.
