CHINESE JOURNAL OF CHEMISTRY Vol. 30 No. 2 February 2012 Pages 209—468 COVER PICTURE The cover picture shows a chiral (6,3) network assembled by lanthanide and 2,2-dihydroxylmalonate. X-ray analysis re- vealed that each lanthanide center is surrounded by three 2,2-dihydroxylmalonate ligands with bis-chelate coordination mode to give rise to a building unit of turbine blade structure. These buiding units alternatively connect adjacent units with same configuration and extend the linkage on ab plane to form the chiral two-dimensional framework. The construction of the resultant chiral network demonstrates that 2,2-dihydroxy- lmalonate is a perfect ligand to build some chiral metal-or- ganic framework with potential optical properties.
