Content: Steel Construction 3/2012 Content The title picture shows a part of the refurbished subway line U2 in Berlin. The U2 has been in operation since 1913 and runs from Ruhleben to Pankow, partially as a subway underground in tunnels and partially as an aerial railway on steel fly-overs. The refurbis- hed part consists of the northern part of the aerial railway. The total length equals approx. 1.8 km. The fly-over section in the “Schönhauser Allee” has hardly been changed and is under protection of historical monuments. The rails of the subway lay in graveled beds. The gravel lies in so-called formed buckled plates. These plates are placed on the steel supporting frame. More than 2000 of these plates with differing measurements and forms were exchanged. Abstract

Content The title picture shows a part of the refurbished subway line U2 in Berlin.
