Coming Events, Jottings and Announcements At www.MulticulturalFamily.org (Multicultural Family institute) you will find genograms of famous people, details of forthcoming training workshops, an introduction to the staff of the Institute, and, unexpectedly, the APA Style Guide. Psychiatrist Jim Birch died accidentally 22 October 2000. In the 1980s, he migrated to Australia with his family. He worked at the Bouverie Family Therapy Centre in Melbourne, Glenside hospital, Adelaide and later in private practice at the Dulwich Centre in Adelaide. At the end of the decade, he returned to the UK. He is remembered fondly here by his colleagues, and those who read his (1987) paper: ‘Waiting without Purpose: A Discourse on The Tao of Pooh’, ANZJFT, 8 , 3: 143-148. The Board Executive and the Editors express gratitude to Brian Stagoll, who, o n his recent trip t o the American Family Therapy Association Conference in Miami acted as Roving Ambassador for the ANZJFT, and distributed as many back issues as he could pack in his luggage. He also made a short speech praising your Journal at a Family Process function, where he asked all A N Z J F T subscribers to raise their hands - there was just one. Brian confirms that this Journal is well known to many in the US - but very few actually subscribe. Complementary papers explore lessons learnt by Norwegian therapists Nora Svem and Sissel Reichelt (‘Refugee Families in Therapy’) and by London-based Jeremy Woodcock (‘...Therapy with Survivors of War and Political Oppression’). Richard Charles’ survey paper ‘Is There any Empirical Support for Bowen’s Concepts of Differentiation of Self, Triangulation, and Fusion?’(The American Journal of Family TheraB 29, 4: 279-292) usefully critiques and summarises eight research papers. Invited keynote speakers include Australian John Marsden, who writes novels for young people.
