Choice of DES: A US Clinician's Perspective

Choice of DES: A US Clinician's Perspective With the advent of the second‐generation drug‐eluting stents, the decision process on which stent to use is becoming increasingly complex. Our article compares the technical characteristics of the four drug‐eluting stents (DES) currently available in the United States. We review the data that led to the approval of each stent and analyze the literature comparing their performance in various patient subgroups. Finally, we present our current practice and identify a “wish list” for the ideal DES. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Journal of Interventional Cardiology Wiley

Abstract

With the advent of the second‐generation drug‐eluting stents, the decision process on which stent to use is becoming increasingly complex. Our article compares the technical characteristics of the four drug‐eluting stents (DES) currently available in the United States. We review the data that led to the approval of each stent and analyze the literature comparing their performance in various patient subgroups. Finally, we present our current practice and identify a “wish list” for the ideal DES.
