The London Mathematical Society was founded in 1865 for the promotion and extension of mathematical knowledge. It has regular meetings and is involved in the organisation of conferences of various kinds. Information concerning the activities of the Society and nomination forms for membership can be obtained from the Membership Secretary, Dr A. R. The Society began publishing its PROCEEDINGS in 1865, its JOURNAL in 1926, this BULLETIN in 1969, and its NEWSLETTER in 1973. It is associated with Academic Press in publishing a series of MONOGRAPHS, with the Cambridge University Press in publishing a series of LECTURE NOTES, with the British Library in publishing RUSSIAN MATHEMATICAL SURVEYS (a translation of most of the material appearing in Uspekhi Matematuheskikh Nauk), and with the American Mathematical Society in publishing TRANSACTIONS o r THE Moscow MATHEMATICAL SOCIETY (a translation of Trudy Moskovskovo Maiematicheskovo Ohshchestva). Subscription rates are given below; further information about the Society's publications can be obtained from the Publications Secretary, Professor J. S. Pym, Department of Pure Mathematics, The University, Sheffield S3 7RH. The BULLETIN is published at the price of £60 (£67 or US$136 for overseas subscribers) net for a volume of six issues. The JOURNAL is published at the price of £60 (£67 or US$136 for overseas subscribers) net for a volume of three issues. Normally two volumes are published each year. Volume 40 (Russia 1985) will appear from about October 1985 to August 1986 at the price of £120 (£175 for overseas subscribers).
