Announcement The 19th Congress of the Transplantation Society 27 August – 1 September 2000 in Rome

Announcement The 19th Congress of the Transplantation Society 27 August – 1 September 2000 in Rome Xenotransplantation will be well represented at the Congress of the Transplantation Society, which will be held in Rome in August of this year. Of the 3172 abstracts that have been submitted to the Congress, 170 are on xenotransplantation research. 42 of these abstracts have been chosen for oral presentation; they will be presented at seven sessions, each containing six presentations. Furthermore, there will be two Single Subject Symposia on xenotransplantation. One is entitled “Immunological hurdles in xenotransplantation” and the other is “Ethics and risks in xenotransplantation”. In addition, one of the seven plenary sessions will be devoted to xenotransplantation. This session has been named the Keith Reemtsma Session on Xenotransplantation , and it will feature four speakers. The basic science aspects of transplantation, and the new immunosuppressive agents will be prominently featured at the Congress. I take this opportunity to remind you that the IXA is a section of the Transplantation Society. This in itself, is a good reason for going to Rome. Another reason is the fact that the scientific program will be outstanding. Furthermore, going to Rome for the Congress will give you a chance to be in the Eternal City during the year 2000, the Jubilee Year. C. G. Abstract

Xenotransplantation will be well represented at the Congress of the Transplantation Society, which will be held in Rome in August of this year.
