And Long May it Last In this issue we are saying goodbye to Professor David Felce in his role as Co‐editor of the journal. David has written a typically modest article below but I would like to add a few words: firstly to say what a wonderful colleague he has been, secondly to say how much he has taught me and lastly to say what an enormous debt the international research community, services for people with intellectual disabilities and people with intellectual disabilities themselves owe David. I am delighted to say that David has agreed to continue reviewing for the Journal of Applied Research in Intellectual Disabilities ( JARID ), so do not think you have escaped his eagle eye for errors. Glynis Murphy And long may it last The end of 2009 marked my retirement as Co‐editor of JARID to be replaced by Professor Chris Hatton, Centre for Disability Research, Lancaster University. I am thankful that the Journal will continue to be in good hands as its future is close to my heart. I founded JARID [initially titled Mental Handicap Research ( MHR )] in 1988 during my stint at the, then, British Institute of Mental Handicap.
