112 Buchbesprechungen detual questions of Waterworks Biology 1987. (in Czech). collected papers from a seminar held on January 15. 1987 in Prague, Priigue, Czech Scientific-Technical Society, 1987, p. 183, not on market] The serniniir wits introduced by V. SL.~DE~EK with a smnll atlas of 11 plates conta, ining 313 ben- thic algae causing t'roubleu in the waterworks technology. Tlie same a,ut,hor att'ached an additional plate to a paper dealing with the abiosestoii. P. DOLEJ~ and J. HEJZLAR showed by 6 graphs how in the impoundment. Rimov organic matters represented by COD, wiiter teinperature and colonr were distribnted and how this distribution affected bhe dosis of it coagulant in the course of water treatment technology. In the sa'ine reservoir P. PORCALOV.~ exitmined the sediment Ation of P from the epilimnion: from ?;Fay to September 1980 sedimented 7 nig/ni?. d on an average. V. ROZXAJZLOL~ reported about the cont.rol analyses made by 30 liiboriitories of the rough and final drinking watrr from the reservoir KliEava. Of course, there were sometimes big discreptbncies. J. ROTKSCHEIS discused the problein of the prognosis of the degree of trophic conditions in plaiined artificial reservoirs for water supply. Tlie system elaborated bj- ZELISK.~ proved to be t.he best one. P. PUSOOCH~~ proposed a simple but laborious method for determining the natural periphyton on stones in shitllow running waters. He proved a big difference between clean And polluted rivulets. A. SL~DE~KOY~ and 11. BERS-~RD found that the water intake from sand pits can be improved by taking the infiltered m'iter from wells drilled nround the wakr body, which is usually eutrophi- cuted and even polluted from both the land and the Rir. I-. HRADIL summarized his rich experience with the zones of Iiygienical protect ion of sources of drinking wiiter, especially impoundments. If. VERES~KOV~ and 11. SYXEK showed by exiimpies t,he ability of the biological analysis to detect the contamination of drinking water in the pipes. L. ZLCEK formulated the requirements of the water technologist to t'he biological analysis in waterworks. D. MATELOV~ introduced some nen' lsboriitory experiments to prove the drinking water qua 1 it J-. J. HHUJLER reported on the error3 and insufficiencies of the bacteriological iLndysis of drinking water. The whole methodics is biised on conventional examinations which must b- extremely preci- sely respected. J. MORAVEC applied the anticorrosive and antiincrustat, ion polyphosphate VOPO in a part, of the drinking water system of Prague. The concentrations below 3 ug/l did not stimulat,e the growth of bact, eria or of other aquatic organisms. V. MORAVCOVA criticized the applicationof average biological values in waterworks biology. There are important the maximum values and the averages are distorted by the winter minimum values. J. POPOWKY reported about the text of important paragraphs of the amended Czech State Norm 83 0611 Drinking Water. There is stated that the real iron and manganese bacteria do not mean any hygienical obstacle. 9 discussion for 3 hours brought some new ideas, proposals and recommendations and was sum- marized in the last paper. The scminar will be continued after one year. V. SLLDE~EK
