About the authors

About the authors H. S . SHAH, Ph.D., received his degrees at Gujarat University in India. He is presently Professor of Physics and Head of the Physics Department at Sardar Vallabhbhai Regional College of Engineering and Technology. His fields of interest are applied optics, light scattering, magnetooptics, reflectance spectroscopy, and color science. The present research was carried out while he was Visiting ProfessorofColor Scienceat Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where his coauthor, FRED W. BILLMEYER, JR., now retired, was Director of the Rensselaer Color Measurement Laboratory. KENNETH L. ECKERLE and JACK J . HSIA, Ph.D., are in the Spectrophotometry Group in the Radiometric Physics Division of the Center for Radiation Research at the National Bureau of Standards; Jack Hsia is the group leader. They have authored or coauthored 38 publications and articles, most of them on spectrophotometry, and the present article is their fourth in this journal. SHENQ-TSONG CHANG is a guest worker at the NBS from the Precision Instrument S. LEONARD DAVIDSON, a member of the Editorial Board of this journal from its inception in 1975 to the end of 1983, died on November 10, 1984. Mr. Davidson received his B.S. degree from the University of California at Los Angeles, and in 1943 joined the National Lead Company, now NL Industries, where he spent his entire career of 40 years. As Treasurer of the Inter-Society Color Council, Mr. Davidson was responsible for relations between this journal and that Endorsing Society, and initiated many of the policies the journal has found eminently successful over the years of its existence. Mr. Davidson was past President and an Honorary member of the Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology, and past Treasurer of the Munsell Color Foundation. His guidance will be missed.
