The Ramsey woman just sat there looking her hatred straight ahead, and I felt his agony running all the way up through my body, so that my hands shook, trying to hold the candle steady. "Yes," I said, and we should have killed him as he lay in the road, but it would have been murder then, that despairing knowledge of murder in Andy's eyes turning me desperate.
