The rutted path keeps straight ahead— Not in a perfect line of course, but looping slightly left Or right like a slightly slack backyard cotton line Waiting to host the morning's first wash- Keeps straight ahead till near a rise it curves To turn now north again across the pasture And then slope down to the creek beside York's Pike.
