Murdock The novel, ALMETTA OF GABRIEL'S RUN by Louise S. Murdock, was printed by the Meridian Press of New York City in 1917. The Murdochs, Harvey and Louise, came to Buckhorn in eastern Kentucky in 1902. Harvey Murdock was the founder of Witherspoon College, now Buckhorn Children's Center. The novel continues to be interesting because it portrays quite well the speech and social customs of an earlier time. The "Working" (Chapter VIII of the novel) along with the introduction was chosen for reprint for its fine portrayal of the combined work- play-entertainment aspect of that earlier life-and makes use of The Jack Tales long before the famous collectors were about.
