A Tragedy at Hillville: Act III (Conclusion) A TRAGEDY AT HILLVILLE ACT IH (CONCLUSION) by Ron Larson SYNOPSIS OF ACT II It is early March Saturday afternoon, 1912. Claude Allen and his sweetheart, Nellie Wisler, have just arrived at his uncle Sidna Allen's new home. Sidna has agreed to allow the couple to use the house so that they might meet privately with his cousin Wesley Edwards and Maude Iroler, Wesley's sweetheart. Nellie has requested the meeting, and initially Claude thinks its sole purpose is to renew the friendship between the couples. However, while they are awaiting the arrival of Wesley and Maude, Claude discovers that Nellie's real purpose is to determine the facts behind his father's upcoming trial. It appears that Floyd Allen is to be tried the following week for his part in events growing out of the schoolhouse row. Nellie wants to learn what happened from Wesley Edwards who was directly involved in these events. "shoot a hole" in the Carroll Court if Floyd is convicted and sent to jail. Claude tells her that the rumor was started by Dexter Goad and his "puppets" so that his father wouldn't get a fair trial.
