Editor’s Introduction TODD DECKER This issue marks a change of editor for American Music. I want to begin by extending warm thanks to our outgoing editor, Gayle Sherwood Magee, book review editor, Elissa Harbert, and media review editor, Liz Przybylski, for their tremendous work on American Music over the last three years. I am humbled by the University of Illi - nois Press entrusting me with the custodianship of this venerable journal for the next three years, and I enthusiastically embrace the challenge— especially given the extraordinary support of our new book review edi - tor, Jacqueline Avila, and my terrific editorial assistants (and doctoral advisees), Daniel Fister and Rachel Jones. Thanks as well to my eight colleagues who have graciously agreed to serve on our editorial board and to the many outside readers who have already generously given of their time to review submissions and help our authors refine and polish their scholarship. And, of course, thank you to our authors and r - eview ers, whose research endeavors and close reading of recent books give the journal its substance and reason to exist.
