Editors’ Note

Editors’ Note The first 2016 issue of Asian Perspectives (vol. 55, no. 1) offers a sample of research in different geographic areas, time periods, and thematic topics of relevance to wideranging scholarship of archaeology in the Asia-Pacific region. We endeavor to present articles of such broad relevance in each issue, so that the journal will provide a steady flow of the latest discoveries, interpretations, and discussions at the forefront of regional research. Readers may have noticed that the production schedule has regained momentum. We continually have developed new procedures to ensure timely output while sustaining the high quality of content that we all expect. Publication of the next issue (currently in production) will bring the journal up-to-date, and now we can concentrate on the future. Currently accepted manuscripts can be brought into final print within 12 months, quite reasonable for a journal that produces two issues per year. We further are increasing our efficiency with a new electronic manuscript submission system. Henceforth, all manuscripts will be submitted online at: http:// asianperspectives.msubmit.net. As mentioned in our last Editors' Note, in this issue we introduce a new occasional feature that, like the Book Review section of the journal, will allow for another significant type of contribution to scholarship on and about Asian and Pacific archaeology--an Obituary/Memorial section. We anticipate publishing other memorials in forthcoming issues, and encourage readers who wish to memorialize the passing of important members of the fields represented in this journal to consider submitting scholarly obituaries to Asian Perspectives. We are currently developing other aspects of the journal to provide readers with easier access to greater information. One example already can be seen in the newly available option of substituting color figures for the digital versions of articles published online. In the future, we plan to revise the presentation and format of journal content while maintaining the familiar overall look of the journal. The quality of the journal always relies on scholars of Asia and the Pacific who not only contribute their best work for consideration for publication, but also offer their input in critical and constructive reviews. We particularly wish to thank the members of our Editorial Board for devoting their valuable time in seeking quality manuscripts, assisting with reviewing, and identifying appropriate reviewers for the incoming stream of new manuscripts. --Mike T. Abstract

The first 2016 issue of Asian Perspectives (vol.
