Tourism Education, the Peace Proposition and the Conscientization of the Tourism Industry
Abstract
The paper examines the potential of tourism education to encourage tourism industry recognition of its ability to contribute to a more harmonious and peaceful world. There is reference to the United Nations Global Code of Ethics for Tourism as a resource available to the educator. It is submitted that tourism education provides opportunities for conscientization (awareness and a willingness to be involved) of the tourism industry and there are suggestions on how this can be done through the incorporation of relevant considerations into textbooks, courses, and tutorial situations.
