Jinan University - University of Birmingham Joint Institute Between 29–30 December, 2017, the Second Representative and Third Annual Academic Conference of Guangdong Operations Research Society were held in Shenzhen Pattaya Hotel. The conference was hosted by Guangdong Operations Research Society and under- took by Shenzhen University. On the morning of December 29, the second conference of the Guangdong Opera- tions Research Society was held in the conference room on the third floor of the Dameisha Pattaya Hotel in Shenzhen. With 48 member representatives and 32 delegates attending it. The agenda of the congress includes the opening ceremony and the election of the sec- ond council. The opening ceremony was presided by Fan Suo-hai. The representative of Shenzhen University delivered a welcome speech. Academician Jing-hong Zhang, the hon- orary chairman of Guangdong Operations Research Society, and Zhi-feng Hao President of Foshan Institute of Science and Technology, respectively addressed the opening cere- mony. Ken Sir Lee, President of the Hong Kong Association of Higher Education, President Dong-cai Lai of China Science and Education Press, and De-lin Song, President of Gansu Province Foundation for Caring for the Next Generation, delivered congratulatory speeches respectively. Professor Cao Bing-yuan, Chairman of the first council, made the work report of Guangdong Operations Research Society. The election of the second council was presided over by Dong-hui Li. Firstly, Cao Bing- yuan made a statement on the selection of supervisors and candidates for the second council. The second council was elected by the congress, and the results of the council election were announced by Dong-hui Li. Then the first meeting of the second council of Guangdong Operations Research Society was held. Cao Bing-yuan was elected as Chair- man. Li Zhong-fei, Liu Er-mou, Bai Shi-zhong, Wei Fu-yi and Li Xiang-ru were elected as vice presidents, and Shuo-hai Fan was elected as a secretary general. On the afternoon of December 29 and the morning of December 30, the third academic conference of Guangdong Operations Research Society was held to conduct academic reports and academic exchanges. President Hao Zhi-feng gave a report on ‘Thinking of new engineering on the construction of related disciplines and specialties of operations research’. Professor Li Zhong-fei, a Changjiang Scholar, gave a report on ‘Introduction and Reflection on the 2017’. Zhong Jia-qing Operations Research Award and national innovation research group project’. President Liu Er-mou gave a speech of ‘Financial analysis and financial data mining’. Chairman Cao Bing-yuan made a report on ‘the Progress of Fuzzy Geometric Program- ming’. Hadi Nasseri, vice president of Iran Operations Research Association and an Iranian Elite Fund Winner, gave a report entitled ‘a survey study on fuzzy mathematical program- ming: Models and methods’. In the groups of academic reports, some representatives and councils shared their latest academic papers. On the morning of December 30, the second meeting of the second council of Guang- dong Operations Research Society was held. Chairman Cao Bing-yuan presided the meeting and discussed the next working plan of the society. After lively discussions, the working and development plan of the second council were summarized. [1] The society should establish a sound organization and strengthen cooperation with its brother societies. We will work hard to run an open access to journal Operations Research Management and Fuzzy Mathematics and the international journal ‘Fuzzy Information and Engineering’ edited by Professor Bing-yuan Cao, promoting the Chinese and English ver- sions of the high school development textbook ‘Fuzzy Sets Preliminary – high school trial textbook’ jointly published by Springer and China Science and Education Press. We should pay full attention to the regional advantages of Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Macao, and combine knowledge, society-industry-university-research cooperation to build their operation research and management and fuzzy mathematics base.
