Nicholson's environmental committee of the London Celebrations Committee for the Queen's Silver Jubilee has been involved in several projects in London, and even though it is simply a route, not an imposing landmark, their Silver Jubilee Walkway is destined to become the best known reminder of the London celebrations. Its stated purpose is to enable people to sample the changing and contrasting character of a cross-section of central London. Wherever in central London you notice the motif of the dome of St Paul's thrown into sharp relief by a crown you are likely to be on the 51-mile walkway. Sometimes the outline is stencilled on to paving stones in white, sometimes set into pavement slabs in blue and white, or shown in blue on silver wall plaques.
