RURAL SOCIETY BOOK REVIEW Natural asset farming: creating productive and biodiverse farms,byD. Lindenmayer, S. Macbeth, D. Smith, and M. Young, Canberra, ACT, CSIRO, 2022, 184 pp., AU$44.99 (paperback), ISBN: 9781486314836 Biodiversity conservation in Australia has largely relied on governments setting aside and managing protected areas and developing measures to protect endangered species (Finlayson, 2006; Lockie, 2009). Nearly 60% of the nation’s land mass, however, is managed by private landholders (ABARES, 2016). This provides major opportunities for conserving biodiversity at the landscape scale, as well as preserving endangered species across Australia (Cooke, Lang- ford, Gordon, & Bekessy, 2012). The authors of Natural Asset Farming from the Sustainable Farms project at the Australian National University (ANU) aim to provide farmers and land managers with management options to address biodiversity conservation on their land, while addressing their needs for sustainable agricultural production, based on long-term evidence. By addressing such challenges as declining farm profitability, increasing carbon emissions, biodiversity loss, and declining mental health, Professor David Lindenmayer and his co- authors explore the critical need for long-term relationships and partnerships between researchers and practitioners to maintain and improve natural assets found on individual farms while contributing to farm productivity and the well-being of
