To become or be made a psychoanalystThe Scandinavian Psychoanalytic Review, 26
The primary task for supervision is and should be to provide optimal conditions for the supervisee to integrate their experiences, theoretical knowledge and personality for competent participation in and handling of the psychotherapeutic situation and process. The aim is for the supervisee to acquire core competences. The supervisor has to deal with several ambiguities during the supervisory process as well as with their own role as supervisor, and has continuously to reflect on, as well as to improve, their competence. Thus, supervisor training is essential as is research on how such training works.
